John Michael Skeffington, Jr.
John Michael Skeffington, Jr. “Jack,” 87, of Newport, RI, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. A third generation funeral director and longtime owner of Skeffington Funeral Home, Jack dedicated more than 65 years to serving families in Providence with dignity, grace, and heartfelt compassion. Beyond his life’s work, he was a devoted father, grandfather, public servant, and proud member of the community he loved.

In the wake of a devastating fire we suffered on February 2, 2025, we are currently in the process of rebuilding our new state of the art facility. During this process the Hill – Skeffington Funeral Home remains fully operational and is continuing to serve our community with the same compassion, dignity and care we have provided for generations.
Hill-Skeffington Funeral Home is continuing to provide and serve the community from our temporary location at 700 Main Street, East Greenwich, RI where we continue to provide a comprehensive range of funeral services – including traditional services, cremations, pre planning and memorials at partner facilities across the state.

Our Latest Update
East Greenwich, RI — Hill-Skeffington Funeral Home and Cremations, a trusted name in Rhode Island for generations, is making steady progress on the construction of its new home following the fire that impacted its original location.
Work on the new facility is moving forward, with completion anticipated in 2026. The new space is being thoughtfully designed to continue the firm’s long-standing tradition of compassionate, dignified service.
“This project means a lot to me and my family,” said John Skeffington, owner and President. “We are creating a space that will serve our community for many years with the same care and respect Hill-Skeffington has always provided.”
In the meantime, Hill-Skeffington continues to serve families from its temporary location at 700 Main Street, East Greenwich, and through partnerships with other trusted funeral homes across the state.
