Amy Ann Atwood

Amy Ann Atwood, 39, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2018 at her home in North Providence, RI. Born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, she was the daughter of Brett Atwood and Anita Shelton. Amy was a lifelong learner. She obtained her undergraduate degree at the University of Central Florida and proudly earned her MBA from Arizona State University, participating in a study abroad program in Buenos Aires, Argentina during her time there. She was a stickler for grammar and put her boundless skills to use in marketing for companies like Cox Communications, Global Capacity and Read Speaker. She enjoyed attending industry conferences and learning from the top marketing minds in the country. Amy was a shining light, always with a sparkle in her eye and a song in her heart. Her smile would light up a room and her enthusiasm for life was contagious. She cared deeply for animals of all kinds and would often be seen circling neighborhoods with a stray dog by her side, searching for the owner. Upon moving to Rhode Island from Scottsdale, AZ, Amy quickly fell in love with New England. She enjoyed spending time near the water, frequenting antique stores, flea markets, bookstores, Newport Polo and long afternoons at the EG Fireman’s Club; anyplace that had good people and a great story. She loved discovering new places and listening to live music, she became a dedicated pizza/food connoisseur (and avid Google Local Guide), a volunteer at the Potter League and she was a karaoke superstar, amazing people with her renditions of Fleetwood Mac, Alicia Keyes, Beyonce and others. Amy was quick to strike up a conversation with anyone and truly loved meeting new people; she was an skilled listener who noticed and appreciated the little things in life and always put others ahead of herself. Most of all, she loved surrounding herself with good friends, particularly around the holidays. Besides her parents, she is survived by her beloved grandparents, John and Marilyn Wickenkamp and Maxine Atwood, her half-sister Autumn Harris, step-sister Hollie Munger, step-mother Charlene Munger, step-father Joe Shelton, her pets, Monkey, Gibson and Layla (whom she cherished dearly) and extended family. She will be deeply, deeply missed by her Rhode Island family; Brody, Jordan and John Parris. She made an indelible impact on their lives and, despite being with them for a short time, filled their hearts with a lifetime of memories. She was loved unconditionally and her legacy will live on through them. Amy was an amazing role model, friend and partner who will never be replaced. There will be no visiting hours. A private memorial celebrating Amy’s life will be held for friends and family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Amy’s memory may be made to the Potter League for Animals, 87 Oliphant Lane, Middletown, RI, https://www.potterleague.org
