Arlene Botelho, passed away on July 2, 2024. Arlene passed from this earth in a peaceful, painless way surrounded by her family and friends at the Rhode Island Hospital. Heaven has snagged another angel for sure...
Arlene was a breath of fresh air, a ray of sunshine, always there with a helping hand and a loving smile for anyone who needed her. She was meticulous, petite, and an avid Golfer, and a joy to be around.
She was a wife, a mother, a friend, an aunt, a cousin, sister, long time loving neighbor, and parishioner who dedicated herself to the First Baptist Church of East Greenwich for many years.
She was very devoted to her work at the church as well as her housekeeping business, in which she cleaned houses for a few friends who were unable to do it themselves.
Arlene was an avid gardener. She loved flowers of any kind. She spent many hours maintaining the beautiful landscape she created at her long-time home in East Greenwich.
Arlene was a lover of animals. She was always dressed smartly and brightly, a fashion sense that matched her spunky yet serious personality.
At 89 Arlene was still driving her ultra speedy spitfire car. She would travel to see her friends, deliver the brochures for the church, pick-up flowers etc. and go shopping for her family.
There was always music playing in her car. She enjoyed driving, as it kept her independent.
Independence was the driving force for Arlene. She refused to slow down. She believed the key to her independence was to keep moving and never slow down.
Arlene touched so many souls on all different levels. The love for her fellow person was so present. And it is obvious the love all who knew her feel for her.
Arlene lived a long full life. One without any personal harsh sickness.
Arlene was the late wife of Chief of Police John T. Botelho (EGPD), and the late mother of Jaqueline Botelho Mistretta. Arlene leaves behind a son Larry C Matteson and his fiancé Naomi Walton, of East Greenwich. Siblings: Mary, Regina, Linda, Gladys, Reggie and Robert. She leaves behind her First Baptist of EG family where she made many long-life friendships and bonds. She leaves behind her Grand dog Maestro.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday August 10th at 11:00 am, at the First Baptist Church of East Greenwich followed by a collation at the Church House across the street for Arlene. The burial will be private for family only.
Let’s fill the chapel with flowers in honor of Arlene.
Arlene exuded kindness and generosity. She saw the world as a glass half full. She always offered her positive attitude to everyone.
Her legacy will be when we all show the world a bit more kindness and remain grateful for what we have.
She will be missed.
Rest in peace sweet Mama Bear.
