Arthur S. Dwyer, PPD (Ret.), of Providence passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, at HopeHealth Hospice, having just celebrated his 89th birthday three days prior. He was the husband of Irene C. (O’Donnell) Dwyer.Arthur’s life was one of deep commitment and quiet strength.
He dedicated his life to service – both to his country and community. He spent 29 years of combined service in the United States Army and Army Reserves retiring with the rank of First Sergeant. He served 29 years with the Providence Police Department retiring with the rank of Sergeant.
Those who knew him best will remember him for his steady presence and kind heart.
He leaves behind his wife, Irene, and his son, Michael Dwyer. He is also survived by his sister, Karen Nyberg, and his brothers, Richard Dwyer and Vincent Tortolani. Arthur held a special place in his heart for his five great-nieces and nephews—Morena, Paulo, Mari, Kevin, and Mariah Gomes—who brought him love and joy. He now joins his late parents, Arthur and Genevieve, and his brothers, John and Charles, in peace.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at 10:00am at St. Augustine's Catholic Church, 639 Mount Pleasant Avenue, Providence. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
