Barbara Jean Dolan, (Ryan), 90, passed away peacefully June 13, 2018, surrounded by family. She was born June 20, 1927, in Pomfret, CT to the late Lawrence & Nellie (Furlong) Ryan.
She graduated from Mt. St. Mary’s College, 1949. She received her Master’s degree in Social Work from Boston College, May 1951.
Barbara married Hubert Dolan, June 21, 1952. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and great grandson, Andrew Daly.
Barbara was a passionate social worker and worked in a variety of settings, including Children’s Friend & Service in Providence, RI, where she was promoted to the Director of the agency. She also worked for the Warwick School Department before retiring in 1990. She was member of the National Association of Social Worker’s and was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. She served on the Board of Director’s of the Warwick Boy’s and Girl’s Club and the Arthur Trudeau Center. She was a lifetime member of the Potowomut Golf Club and served on the Board of Governor’s and remained an honorary member.
In her retirement she enjoyed spending time with friends and family, playing bridge, golfing and reading, in addition to having a glass of wine on her deck, overlooking beautiful Wickford Harbor. Her beautiful spirit will be missed by all who knew her. She made everyone feel special.

She was survived by and the best mother to Patricia (David) Florence, East Greenwich, RI; Mary (Scott) Krienke, Hartland, WI; Jean (Robert) Clifford, Carmel, IN; Matt (Claire) Dolan, North Kingstown, RI. She was the beloved and cherished grandmother to Matthew, Katherine, Lyndsay, Michael Florence; Ryan, Elizabeth, Nicholas Krienke; Rachel, Robert, Benjamin Clifford; and Matthew, Erin, Abigail, Luke, Phoebe Dolan, in addition to 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Monday June 18 th at 9:00 am from the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at St. Francis de Sales Church, School St., North Kingstown. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, West Greenwich. Calling hours: Sunday June 17 th from 5-7 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
