Barbara Shanno

Barbara Shanno, of Warwick, RI, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at the age of 83. She was born in Arlington, MA and grew up in Leonia, NJ before coming to RI and residing in Warwick since 1971.

She is survived by her daughter Kathleen Torregrossa and husband Stephen of Hope, son Michael Shanno and wife Karen, of Natick, MA and her three grandchildren, Emily, Julia, and Joseph Shanno. She also leaves her brother Thomas and wife Carol, brother-in-law Peter Shanno and wife Susan, along with many nieces and nephews: Linda Sue Mastaler, Donna Harris, Thomas Joyce, Lisa Vandeweert, Christopher Huban and Ryan Huban.  She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Shanno.

She cherished being a mother, grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend and loved family gatherings and parties. She enjoyed spending time with them at Thanksgiving and Christmas, her favorite time of the year. Barbara enjoyed reading, traveling, and spending time with her many friends and family, particularly attending her grandchildren's activities.

She was a PTA president, Executive Secretary at Old Stone Bank and DiMeo, and, before retiring, the receptionist at WJAR 10.

The family deeply appreciates the warm, devoted care from the nurses and CNAs at Sunny View Nursing Home and Kent County Hospital.

Funeral Wednesday December 4 ^th at 9:00 am from the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, East Greenwich. Calling hours: Tuesday December 3 ^rd from 5-8 pm.
