Remembering Barry Stephen Dugan

Barry Stephen Dugan known affectionately by his friends as Barracuda, born on March 21, 1945, and passing away on July 5, 2024, left an indelible mark on the communities he touched. Born in Manhattan, New York, Barry’s journey led him to Rhode Island, where he settled into a serene wooded property in Exeter. His heart always belonged to Narragansett Bay and the surrounding areas, particularly Bonnet Shores where he spent his summers growing up and continued to keep a deep connection with throughout his life.

Barry’s life was one of connection and impact. As a well-respected member of Alcoholics Anonymous for over 30 years, he touched countless lives, offering support, kindness, and mentorship. His gentle soul resonated with everyone he met, leaving lasting impressions.

His home in Exeter became a hub of friendship and celebration and was always open to those in need. The annual  " New Year's party", eagerly anticipated by many, epitomized Barry’s love for gatherings. He danced with infectious joy, bringing life to every room.

Barry’s passions extended beyond socializing. He was an avid dancer and would be the life of the party anytime he attended a concert or anywhere he could let loose. His love for cars and motorcycles led him to own many over the years. Oatley’s Restaurant in Exeter became a familiar spot where he greeted friends each morning.

Barry was also a proud member of the Screen Actors Guild, involved in a long list of movies and television shows. Another passion he was deeply proud of and where he made many lifelong connections and friends and impacted people all over.

In his legacy, Barry leaves behind his son Peter Dugan of Exeter RI and his daughter Paula Morin (married to Bruce Morin) of South Venice FL. His grandchildren Christopher Dugan of Exeter RI, Amelia Dugan and her husband Peter Muddiman of Richmond RI, Elizabeth Dugan of Boston MA, and Nicholas Morin of Exeter RI He also leaves behind his many friends in the AA community and the South County Rhode Island community as a whole. He is predeceased by his parents Earl and Catherine (McIssac) Dugan, Sister Eleanor Hall of Westport, Massachusetts, and sister Betty Anne Daley of Massachusetts.

A private burial will honor Barry, followed by a celebration of life at his home on August 24, 2024 at 4:00 pm — a fitting tribute to the man who brought people together, just as he did during countless New Year’s parties. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Galilee Mission will be greatly appreciated.
