Carol Angela Stafford passed away peacefully on July 19, 2026, at the age of 82.
Born in December 1943 in Boston, Massachusetts, Carol was the daughter of Nils and Frances Thureson. Carol Angela; a name inspired by the Christmas carols of the season and the angels of the holiday.
Carol’s greatest joy was her family. She devoted herself to being the best mother she could be while also building a distinguished 22-year career in government service. She worked as an executive assistant with the Small Business Administration before becoming a park ranger at Adams National Historical Park in Quincy, Massachusetts, a role she embraced with pride and dedication.
After 40 years in Quincy, Carol and her husband, Jack, made their home in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, where she found her greatest happiness in being “Grammy.” She never missed one of her grandson Charley’s games, concerts, plays, graduations, or other milestones, always cheering him on with love and pride. She also treasured time spent with her family at their summer home in Maine, where many cherished memories were made.
Carol shared 58 wonderful years of marriage with John “Jackie” Stafford, her best friend, constant companion, and the love of her life.
Her resilience, faith, and quiet strength inspired everyone fortunate enough to know her. She was admired for her elegance, beauty and timeless style. Above all, she will be remembered for the love she gave to her family and friends. True to her name, Carol Angela will forever be the angel watching over those she loved.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, Nils and Frances Thureson; her brother, Nils Thureson II; and her sisters, Isabel Armstrong and Lorraine Shoap.
She is survived by her devoted husband, John R. Stafford; her sister, Nancy Glueck; her brother, Malcolm Thureson and his wife, Joan; her daughter, Diana Stafford Yonkers and husband, Finn Yonkers; her son, Anthony Stafford; her grandson, Charles Stafford Wight; and many cherished nephews, nieces and extended family members.
Private services will be held. A celebration of Carol’s life will take place at a later date.
