It is with great sadness that we tell you of Carol Ann (Carlos) Towner’s passing. She was originally from Providence, Rhode Island. Her life travels brought her to Texas, Oklahoma, Connecticut and finally Ohio. Her final resting place is back in Rhode Island with her parents, the late Albert F. and Christina M. (Noonan) Carlos and her sister that preceded her in death, Mary Jane Carlos.
Carol always excelled at her school activities. She was in the choir in high School (Saint Patrick’s) and enjoyed singing during her life. She attended Rhode Island Junior College for her Associates Degree. Salve Regina College for her Bachelors in Nursing, where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. In addition, she had two Master Degrees, an MBA from Webster’s College and a Master’s in Counseling from Amberton University. She was a model student and enjoyed learning.
In 1978 she joined the United States Army as a Captain in the Army Nurse Corp. She served her country for three years as a nurse working at the Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC). Upon leaving the Army in 1981, she took a Director of Nursing position in Tulsa, Oklahoma. While there she opened a new 60 story clinic. She continued working as a nurse until retirement.
While not working, she always enjoyed hearing the ocean, going to the Cape, reading a good suspense thriller and seeing the latest movie. You Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle were two of her favorites. She enjoyed visiting England, Ireland, the Grand Canyon and the hot air balloons in New Mexico.
She had a picture on her wall that sums up her life and it goes:
“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” — Henry David Thoreau, Walden
In her later years Carol developed dementia. While in assisted living, she had many friends, nurses and other caregivers that loved and cared for her. She will be missed.
Finally, she is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Towner) Parker and son in-law Robert Parker. She had two additional sisters, Patricia Morrison and Christine Ames as well as many cousins.
In lieu of flowers, her daughter and son in-law, Stephanie and Robert Parker, ask that a donation be made to Dementia Research.
