MARY CHARLENE MORGAN (CLARKE) 75, of Saunderstown, RI, passed away in her home on July 18th, 2022, surrounded by her loving family.
Charlene was born on February 6th, 1947 to the late Helen and James Clarke of Bristol, Rhode Island. She is predeceased by her sister, Catherine Imondi. Charlene is survived by her husband of 54 years, Dr. Thomas Frank Morgan.
Charlene and Tom first met briefly as children. Many years later in the late 1960s, God would see fit to reunite Charlene and Tom, and after a three day courtship the young couple would decide to marry and start what would become an incredible 54 year journey together as husband and wife, mother and father. Charlene would go on to manage the office of her husband’s medical practice, a job encompassing more than administrative duties; like making sure Tom wore matching socks and didn’t have mustard stains on his white doctor's coat.
Charlene is survived by her five loving children: Karen Lemont, and her husband David, David and his wife Tara, Bethany Zarrella, Michael and his wife Mary Jane, and Matthew and his partner Max. She is also survived by her five adoring grandchildren, Kaitlin, Maya, Giuliana, Serafina, and Clarke, all of whom will cherish the incredible memories of their beloved “Gram.”
When it comes to her children, “loving” and “devoted” are not strong enough words to describe the kind of mother Charlene was. She dedicated her life to making the lives of her children the best they could be. Whether cheering them on at sporting events, producing their independent backyard movies, or helping them build a music studio in their father’s office, Charlene was a fearless supporter of all their passions and pursuits. Leading by example, she rarely spoke a bad word about anyone, repeating one of her favorite sayings that if you didn’t have something nice to say about someone then you shouldn’t say anything at all.
Charlene lived life to the fullest. She especially looked forward to many trips to Disney World as much as or maybe even more than the kids did. She savored the finer things as much as simple pleasures; be it a fancy dinner with a glass of her favorite Chardonnay or a bacon cheeseburger chased with a chocolate treat from her secret candy drawer. Even in recent months, Charlene could still be found watching a Patriots game, playing with her grandkids, or enjoying one of her favorite TV shows as long as she was with the people she loved.
Charlene’s memory will live on through her family, her extended relatives, and all the friends whose lives she touched over so many amazing years. She was a mother to so many, making sure her home was a loving place for everyone. For all those lucky enough to have known her, Charlene will not only be missed but will be celebrated each and every day.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, July 22 nd at 11:00am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, East Greenwich. Donations can be made in Charlene’s honor to alz.org or wearehfc.org
