Charles Joseph Gagnon (Chuck), 58 of San Diego, California passed away on Friday, February 7 th , 2020. Chuck was born on the 2 nd of January, 1962 in Spokane, Washington to Madeline and Paul Gagnon.
He graduated from Burrillville High School in 1980, joined the U.S. Navy in 1981 as an Electronics Technician and was stationed in many places including NAS Whidbey Island, USS Elliot, NAS North Island, USS Tripoli, Navsupp Antarctica, and Bupers SDC.
Chuck earned many honors including the Southwest Asia Service Medal, the Antarctica Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Chuck retired as a Navy Chief in 2002.
In his spare time, he loved paddle-boarding in San Diego Bay with his King Charles dog “Charlee”, playing racquetball, and music. He played drums and guitar throughout high school and continued playing music as a hobby his entire life. His family remembers Chuck as “kind and caring and always full of life and joy”.
Chuck is preceded in death by his father, Paul Gagnon and mother, Madeline Gagnon.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Christine Gagnon, his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Debby Gagnon, his sister and brother-in-law Anne and Bernie Desrosiers, his sister Peg Tremblay, his sister and brother-in-law Tricia and John Nelson, and many loving nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian will be celebrated on Monday February 17 th at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich, RI. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter, RI. Visitation prior to the mass will be held from 8:30-10:30 am in the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich, RI.
