Charles T. Hutchinson (“Chuck”) of East Greenwich, RI, passed away on Monday July 1, 2019 with Lillian (Arendt) , his wife of 64 years, by his side.
Chuck was born 4/15/1925 in Bronx, NY to the late Edith Boulton and John Lindsey Hutchinson.
A 1947 graduate of Brown University, Chuck also served as Lieutenant JG in the Navy. Upon his discharge, he pursued career options in New York City. He was hired at the American Thread Company in 1957, where he worked for 27 years. He worked his way up the corporate ladder, from the Editor of the company newspaper to Vice President of Human Resources. He was known and respected for his creative and innovative management style.
In 1984, Chuck joined CVS as a Senior Vice President of Human Resources. A position he described as being “by far the most engaging, trail-blazing and fulfilling experience” of his business career. His mission was to grow and develop the Human Resources department thereby serving as an advocate for the “people part of the business”. He achieved this with style and grace. He left CVS in 1990 to begin his next adventure, retirement.
Chuck spent the next 18 years doing pro-bono HR work for several local non-profit organizations, to include Tides Family Services. This brought tremendous satisfaction and allowed him to continue with his advocacy for the people. He was privileged to be a member of the Trinity Repertory Company Board. In his spare time, Chuck enjoyed sailing Whimsy, his 25 foot Cape Dory, golfing with his grandson Justin, tennis, summers on the Cape with family and traveling the globe with Lillian, the love of his life.
In addition to his parents, Chuck is pre-deceased by his brother John, sister Rosemary and young son Jonathan Alexander (“Sandy”). He is survived by his wife Lillian, daughter Karen Carlson, grandchildren Caitlyn Carlson Smith (Ryan), Justin Carlson, two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
