Charles Robert Kineke passed away on June 27th in West Warwick, RI. Born in 1960 in Norfolk, VA, Charley was the son of John Ives (Jack) and Alice Joyce (Duitz) Kineke.
Since his father was a Naval helicopter pilot, the family moved often, with Annapolis being his last station before retirement. Thus Charley graduated from Annapolis Senior High School in 1978, and entered the US Naval Academy that fall. For four years he was able to pursue his great love of sailing, and coaching after graduation added even more to his great store of offshore memories. He entered flight school in Pensacola, FL late in 1982, and earned his wings as a Radar Intercept Officer in February, 1984. A week later, he was married and headed to his first assignment with a fighter squadron in Oceana, VA.
He left active duty in 1990 and worked for various companies over the years. He was well known in the West Bay sailing community sailing his Peterson 34, Thunder, and he jumped at the chance to do longer races whenever possible. He was intensely proud of his children and grandchildren, and devoted to his faith which steered much of his life in his later years.
He leaves behind his wife of 39 years, Genevieve, his children Anne (Timothy), Gus (Laetitia), Mary (Francesco), Theresa, and John, as well as his grandchildren Rosa, Margaret, Theodore, Louis, and Ana, his sisters Theresa Brooks (Paul) and Elizabeth Kineke, and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and a daughter, Margaret Rose.
