Charles C. O'Connell

Charles C. O’Connell, 80, of East Greenwich, passed away on February 12, 2019. He was surrounded by love and his children. Born in Providence, he was the son of late Joseph and Eleanor (Filson) O’Connell.

Charles studied at the Seminary in Washington D.C. and later attended the Catholic University. Afterwards he joined the United States Coast Guard operating the electronics on the ship. He continued his interest in electronics at Brown & Sharpe and worked his way up to an Electrical Engineer. Charles’ passion was in the arts and cross country running.  He loved to paint, read, run, and walk daily for miles. He was a hard man to keep up with.

Charles is survived by his children: Theresa C Berg, Sharon M Birch, Charles C O’Connell, Jr. and Lynn M Creech; fourteen grandchildren: Amanda Lee, Daniel Lee, Joseph Bolster, Renee Spears, James Bolster, Rachel Lynch, John Lee, Morgan O’Connell, Katelyn Creech, Haley O’Connell, Erik Slader III, Chelsea Creech, Alexander O’Connell, and Ellie O’Connell; and two great grandchildren: Owen Edgar, and Eversyn Spears. Charles had four brothers: Joseph, Raymond, and Thomas; and his late brother, George.

Funeral Monday, February 18 th at 9:00am from the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich.  Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich.  Burial with military honors will be in St. Patrick Cemetery, East Greenwich.  Calling hours:  Sunday, February 17 th 2-5pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
