Claire Irene (Watson) Iannelli, 90, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 18, surrounded by the love of her family and the memories of a life well lived.
Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Claire was the beloved daughter of the late Claribel (Hymen) Watson and Kline Watson. As the eldest of four siblings, she grew up in Johnston before making Cumberland her lifelong home, where she devoted herself to raising the family she cherished above all else.
Claire was a woman of deep compassion whose heart was always open to those in need. Driven by her desire to help others, she earned her Bachelor of Social Work degree from Rhode Island College in 1986, a reflection of her lifelong commitment to serving underprivileged members of her community with kindness, dignity, and understanding.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—reading the Sunday newspaper, watching QVC, and listening to her favorite music, which ranged from the timeless melodies of Neil Diamond to the energetic rock of Guns N’ Roses. Claire had a special fondness for hot air balloons, elephants, and spending peaceful moments by the ocean. Yet nothing brought her greater happiness than being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her unwavering love, gentle spirit, and warm heart created a home filled with comfort, laughter, and lasting memories.
Claire is survived by her loving children, Charlene Iannelli of Cumberland, Joseph Iannelli of Narragansett, Kenneth Iannelli of Cumberland, and Colin Iannelli of Westerly. She was predeceased by her beloved son, Richard Iannelli, and her cherished daughter, Kristen Duphiney. She also leaves behind 14 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom were a source of immense pride and joy throughout her life.
Claire’s legacy is one of compassion, generosity, resilience, and unconditional love. She touched countless lives through her caring nature and will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
