Daniel Eugene Hassard, 77, of Warwick passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 17, 2024. Born in Freeport, Long Island, NY, he was the son of the late Eugene E. Hassard and Dorothy (Kotlarz) Hassard.
Dan was a resident of Warwick for nearly 50 years. He worked for most of his career as a photo engraver for a printing company, transitioning to his final job as a courier for a court reporting agency; a company he worked at alongside his wife and daughter for over ten years. He could be counted on for a smile and his kindness was his trademark. He really enjoyed being a courier because he always loved to drive.
Dan will be greatly missed by his loving family. His devoted wife, Regina, to whom he was married for nearly 54 years. His son, Jeffrey, and his wife Kay. His daughter, Danielle Bender, and her husband Deric along with their son, Luke, who knew him as “Gampa”. His brother, David, and his wife, Susan, as well as his nieces, Stephanie and Lisa, and his nephew, Jared. He was the brother of the late Jerry Hassard.
Anyone who knew Dan knew at least three things about him:
He loved music
He loved fishing
He was one heck of a baseball player
If you paid attention, you might also notice that he never complained, appreciated the simple things in life and was quick to share words of wisdom.
Dan cherished the opportunity to stay connected to the game he loved when he coached Jeff in little league in the 80’s, helping to bring their team multiple championships.
He counted down the days until opening day for fishing when his daughter would, reluctantly, join him in the canoe in the frigid early hours of the morning at one of his favorite spots, Wood River or Barberville State Pond, because she didn’t want him to have to go alone. He loved fishing at any time of the day and would bring home any turtles he accidentally snagged, sparking Danielle’s love of turtles which she has down to this day.
Dan and Regina always enjoyed spending time together. Whether it was feeding the birds on the deck or enjoying a cup of coffee together in the living room, they were happy to just be with each other. They were truly meant to be.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday August 22nd from 5-7 pm in the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. His funeral and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial donations in Dan's memory may be made to East Greenwich Little League, PO Box 542, East Greenwich, RI 02818.
