Daniel "Joe" J. Donovan, Sr.

Daniel J. “Joe” Donovan, Sr., 96, a summer resident of Roy Carpenter’s Beach in Matunuck and formerly of Plant City, FL passed away on Monday April 10, 2023. He was the husband of the late Barbara L. (Ashness) Donovan. Born in Providence he was a son of the late Daniel J. and Delia M. (Lynch) Donovan.

He was a driver/salesman for Table Talk Pies for 27 years and was a WWII US Navy Veteran. He was an avid golfer playing up to the age of 95. He loved watching his New England teams; the New England Patriots, Boston Red Sox and Boston Celtics and watching golf to the wee hours of the morning. He loved playing golf with all his golf buddies at Roy Capenter's Beach.

He is survived by eight children: Daniel Donovan, Jr. (Kathy), Thomas Donovan (the late Leonard Miller), Robert Donovan, Frederick Donovan, Patricia Noonan (James), Deborah Fortin (Michael), Barbara Clesas (William) and Maureen Mello (Francis).  He was “Grandpa Joe” to seven grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late James Donovan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday April 14, 2023 at 11:00 am at St. Bernard Church, 275 Tower Hill Rd., North Kingstown. Burial with military honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visitation will be held prior to Mass from 8:30-10:15 am at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St. East Greenwich. In lieu of flowers donations in his name may be made to the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 791 Potter Ave. Providence, RI 02907.
