David E. Belanger

David E. Belanger (“Dave”), 63, of Charlestown, Rhode Island, passed away on January 27, 2026, in Charlestown.

Born on April 3, 1962, Dave was raised in Auburn, NH, the beloved son of Robert A. Belanger and Louise M. Belanger, both of whom preceded him in death.

Dave attended Auburn Village School in Auburn, NH and Central High School in Manchester, NH. He went on to earn a degree in Culinary Arts from Berlin Vocational Technical College in Berlin, NH in 1982. His early career reflected both his strong work ethic and his love of service. He worked in food services at Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH, and later at Brown University in Providence, RI. After leaving Brown, Dave became a District Manager with Rowe Food Services in Lincoln, RI.

In the early 2000s, Dave’s outgoing personality and love of community led him to work as an on-air traffic reporter for several years on local radio stations. His banter with the radio hosts was legendary.

In 2004, Dave began what would become the most meaningful chapter of his professional life—serving the Diocese of Providence. From 2005 to 2013, he worked concurrently at St. Sebastian Church in Providence, St. Ambrose Church in Albion, and St. Catherine of Siena Church in Little Compton, handling maintenance responsibilities along with countless other duties wherever help was needed. Essentially, he was the event director for all the various functions held at the individual parishes he was working for at the time. He would do the planning, purchasing, cooking and supervising, and even clean up.

From 2013 onward, Dave served as Director of Maintenance at Our Lady of Mercy Church and School, yet he did so much more. In addition to maintaining the buildings, he managed the school computer inventory. He became the “go to” guy for tech issues with the printers and copiers, often first asking “is it plugged in?” Dave worked with all aspects of food service at the school. He was also involved in any and every event at the parish, participating in planning every single gathering, from small to whole school events. Nothing got planned without his input. He was an enthusiastic participant in any dress-down day or special occasion and had a unique and incomparable flair for making each event special and memorable.

Dave was deeply passionate about his work with the students, who called him Mr. Belanger. He ran the school lunch program, supervised the youngest students coming into the building every morning, and made sure snacks were ordered and organized for the students in the Extended Day program. He took immense pride in helping create safe, welcoming environments for the parish and school communities. His dedication was steady, and rooted in faith—he simply showed up, day after day, ready to help.

Outside of his professional life, Dave cherished time spent with family and friends. He especially enjoyed exploring coastal communities, enjoying the beauty of the Rhode Island shoreline, and spending peaceful late afternoons at the beach.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brothers Richard “Dick” M. Belanger (Candice Evans) of Ocean View, DE and Roland A. Belanger of Goffstown, NH.

He is survived by his brother Robert N. Belanger (Amy Sullivan) of Auburn, NH; his sister Eileen M. Serratore (Joe) of Bow, NH; and many cousins, nieces and nephews, and godchildren who will remember him for his kindness, humor, and generous heart.

Dave’s life was one of service—to his family, his church, and his community. He will be remembered with love and gratitude by all who knew him.
