David W. Claire

David W. Claire, 88, died peacefully on August 9, 2018. Born in Baltimore, MD on May 22, 1930, he was the son of the late William H. and Hazel S. Claire. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marilyn F. Claire, of Richmond, RI.

David served as a Lieutenant JG in the US Navy from 1953-1956, in the Office of Naval Intelligence, in Washington, D.C.

He was the owner and principal of David Claire and Company, marketing and communications consultants, from 1959-2005, a faculty member of the Bryant College Graduate School of Business from 1963-1974, and an associate professor in marketing, advertising, and management at Johnson and Whales University from 1988-1999.

David received his BA from Brown University in 1952, his MA from American University in 1956, and his MBA from Stanford University in 1958. He also served as a consultant for the Small Business Association of RI, and as director and spokesman for the Richmond Senior Center from 2005-2010. He was a lifelong freelance and short story writer.

David enjoyed lacrosse, tennis, and sailing, and was a member of the varsity lacrosse team while attending Brown University.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Robert A. Claire, and his fiancé Barbara J. Riel, of East Greenwich, RI, and Jack W. Claire, and his wife Helena M. Claire, of Richmond, RI. He is also survived by his grandson, Nathan W. Claire, of Richmond, RI.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 25 th, at 11:30 AM, at St. Patrick Cemetery in East Greenwich. Donations may be made to VNA Hospice Care of Care New England, 51 Health Lane, Warwick, RI 02886.
