Dennis R. Fredella, 99, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2017. Beloved husband of the late Clara M. (Trent) Fredella.
He was the devoted father of Frank Fredella of Honey Brook, PA, Robert Fredella of Trophy Club, TX and Susan Egan of West Warwick, RI. He was the beloved grandfather of 4 and great grandfather of 6, with one on the way.
Born January 24, 1918, he was the son of the late Lorenzo and Consiglia Fredella of New London, CT, and the youngest of 7 siblings.
Dennis enlisted in the US Navy on April 1, 1943 and achieved the rank of Store Keeper First Class. He was assigned to the USS Buckingham a combat transport ship which operated throughout the South Pacific during WWII. His ship encountered the enemy on August 26, 1943. For his distinguished service, Dennis was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and Victory Medal.
After the war Dennis worked for the Federal Government an ended his 30 year career as the Employment Superintendent at the Quonset Point Naval Air Station before it closed in 1973. Dennis also lived in North Fort Myers, FL for 23 years where he golfed every day and was very proud of his five “holes in one”.
Dennis was a true gentleman and made people laugh with his witty one – liners. He will be truly missed.
Funeral service Friday December 8 th at 11:00 am at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Calling hours are omitted. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
