Dennis J. Uhrin, 87, of East Greenwich, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully on April 20, 2025. He was the husband of the late Shirley A. (Barber) Uhrin.
Born on April 28, 1937, in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, Dennis was the son of the late Margaret (Plisko) and Joseph G. Uhrin. He was a proud alumnus of Penn State University, where he earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering. After completing his studies, Dennis moved to Akron, Ohio, where he began his career with General Tire & Rubber and met the love of his life, Shirley Barber. They were married in 1963 and shared 51 years together until Shirley’s passing in 2014.
Dennis began his career at Ciba-Geigy in 1968, steadily advancing through roles of increasing responsibility. His work provided opportunities to live and travel across several U.S. states, including Rhode Island, New Jersey, and Michigan, as well as internationally in Switzerland. Eventually, he returned to Rhode Island, where he contributed his expertise at Teknor Apex and Air Products. His professional journey reflected his dedication and adaptability, but above all, his unwavering devotion to his family truly defined his life.
Dennis was a dedicated sports enthusiast who passionately supported the Boston Celtics, Bruins, and Red Sox, and was a diehard Pittsburgh Steelers fan. A devoted golfer, he was a longtime member of the Exeter Country Club, and his love for the sport extended beyond the greens—he found just as much joy in watching it on TV. He also had a deep fascination with weather patterns and was a loyal supporter of the Penn State Nittany Lions football team.
Dennis found his greatest joy in spending time with family and close friends, whether during holiday gatherings, golf outings, or unforgettable trips. His unwavering kindness and dedication to always doing the right thing left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Dennis is survived by his three beloved children: Beth Burgess (Gene) of California, Michele Forsell (David) of Exeter, Rhode Island, and Christine Uhrin of North Kingstown, Rhode Island. He was a proud grandfather to Emily and Erin Burgess, his cherished granddaughters from California.
