Diana L. Bass

Diana L. Bass, 59, of Providence passed away in her home on October 28, 2022. She was the daughter of the late Raymond L. Bass and Barbara A. Bass Post, the step-daughter of the late Everett C. Post, and the granddaughter of the late Warren and Ethel Martin (Tatro). She is survived by her three children; Cynthia A. Bass and Julio A. Maldonado and their son James E. Maldonado of Providence; Brian E. Bass and Aleksandra Ola W. Szczesna of Norwich, CT; and Crystal J. Bass and Garry A. Morin and their children Jason P.E. Morin and Jacqueline R. Morin of Warwick, RI. She leaves behind four brothers; Alan and Timothy Bass of East Providence, Kevin E. Moniz and Mathew B. Bass, both of Providence. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Kathleen Bruhn Bass of East Providence. She is also survived by her aunts, Doris (Martin) Hall of Poultney, VT; Glenda (Martin) Sleath of Grantham, NH; Gloria Tatro of Klamath Falls, OR and her uncles, Charlie Martin of FL; Winfield "Happy" Martin of Springfield, VT; and Larry Tatro of FL. Diana was predeceased by her two brothers Raymond L. Bass Jr. and Jason K. Bass Post. She will be missed by many more friends and relatives. Diana spent many years as a V.I.P.S. (Volunteers in Providence Schools) where she tutored children in reading at Carl G. Lauro Elementary School in Providence. She was recognized in 1997 for her efforts in literacy for children and received an award presented to her from the City of Providence. In addition to helping students, Diana worked closely with many teachers as their assistant, as well as attended countless field trips and school events. Diana was a lover of horses, enjoyed coloring and building puzzles with her friends in the community room; she enjoyed a good television drama, particularly the Law & Order franchise and notably, Special Victims Unit. She also enjoyed fishing and volunteered her services at a fundraising fishing tournament for children for the past two years. Diana unapologetically enjoyed country music and saw many of her favorites in concert, including Reba McEntire, Dolly Parton, The Judds, Martina McBride, and Alan Jackson, whom she got to see in the front row thanks to tickets won by her daughter, Crystal. She enjoyed a good laugh, having seen her favorite ventriloquist comedian Jeff Dunham live with her daughter and son-in-law Garry. Diana was a diehard New York Yankees fan, her favorite all-time player being Tino Martinez. She got to see games at both the old and new NYY stadiums in the Bronx with her son, Brian, and her late mother, Barbara. Diana loved to "get away" and enjoyed impromptu road trips with her daughter Cynthia and son-in-law Julio. She enjoyed trips to her mother’s home state of Vermont with her late brother, Raymond and his wife Kathy. Diana had a strong and loving personality and always stood up for others. She was deeply loyal to those she cared about and always spoke her mind. She enjoyed spending time with her family and more than anything, she loved being a Grammy to her three grandchildren. Her oldest grandchild, Jason, will always remember their walks on the track and drawing/coloring sessions. Gone far too soon, she will be remembered for her child-like laughter, beautiful skin, and crystal blue eyes. A fighter to the very end, Diana can now rest in paradise with her mother Barbara, step-father Everett, and brothers Jay and Ray. Per the families request the services are private. Arrangements entrusted to the J.F. Skeffington Funeral Home and Cremations, 925 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence. For online condolences kindly - skeffingtonfuneralhome.com
