DOROTHY E. (SIMONS) TIBBETTS, 95, died peacefully on August 22, 2016 at West View RNC surrounded by her loving children. She was the beloved wife of the late Harold B. Tibbetts. Born in Sunbury, Pennsylvania on September 10, 1920, the daughter of George A. Simons and Jennie E. (Senior) Simons. Dottie, as a school girl, was moved by her mother to Watertown, Connecticut, then to Upper Darby, Pennsylvania and finally to Hamilton, Rhode Island. She graduated from North Kingstown High School in 1939 and later graduated from Edgewood Secretarial School.
A longtime resident of North Kingstown and East Greenwich, Dottie made a career in banking; starting as a teller at the Wickford branch of Industrial National Bank; she retired in 1990 from Bank of America’s mortgage department. In retirement, she volunteered for 20 years at Kent County Hospital devoting over 6,000 hours to the gift shop. She also enjoyed a few Caribbean cruises as well as tours of Italy and Greece with her friends.
She was predeceased by her brother Elroy Simons and wife Sally, longtime residents of Feasterville, Pennsylvania and by her sister-in-law Elsie (Tibbetts) Senior and husband Albert Senior Jr., longtime residents of Hamilton, Rhode Island.
She is survived by her three children: Carol E. McMahon of East Greenwich, Richard E. Tibbetts of Houston, Texas, (wife the late Marilyn Joy (Baeder) Tibbetts) and by Jean A. Bertrand and husband William of Harwichport, Massachusetts.
Also by six grandchildren: Sharon McMahon and husband Christopher Prata of Warwick, James D. McMahon III and partner Paige Sweeney of Wayland, Massachusetts, Bethanie DiMeo and husband Trevor of Havertown, Pennsylvania, Kimberly L. Depetris and husband Christopher of Wayne, New Jersey, Karey L. Sweetman and husband Douglas of Sparta, New Jersey and Scott R. Tibbetts of Houston, Texas. Also by nine great grandchildren: Jeffrey and Matthew Depetris, Liam McMahon, Erik Sweeney, son of Paige, Noah, Carlie and Adam DiMeo, Madison and Kaitlyn Sweetman, and serveral cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at East Greenwich United Methodist Church, 1558 South County Trail, East Greenwich, Rhode Island on Tuesday, August 30th, at 1:00 p.m. Donations in her memory may be made to the Memorial Fund at East Greenwich United Methodist Church; or to Kindred Hospice.
