Edith D. Cruise

Edith (Dahlgren) Cruise, age 100, passed away at Saint Elizabeth Home on April 8, 2021. Edith was born November 30, 1920 in Presque Isle, ME, the daughter of Godfrey and Grace (Wilson) Dahlgren. She grew up in Washburn, ME and graduated from Washburn High School. She received her bachelor’s degree from Bates College and later on, got her master’s degree from the University of Rhode Island. She was a librarian in the Warwick School Department for 36 years. She was very active in the RI and New England School Library Associations. In addition to her parents, Edith was predeceased by her husband, Jack Cruise, her sisters, Eva and husband, Rodney Gurley, Helen and husband, Lynwood McCready, Julia and husband Vincent Ballard, and Beatrice Dahlgren. She is survived by her niece, Lynn McCready and husband, Bob Manna of Plymouth, MA., niece, Sharon and husband, Jerald Johnson of Presque Isle, ME; a nephew, Michael Gurley and wife, Royann of Gig Harbor, WA., several grandnieces and grandnephews; and 2 stepdaughters, Judith Plotner of Weymouth, MA and Suzanne Fallucco of Ledyard, CT. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Riverside Extension Cemetery, Washburn, ME. Donations may be made in Edith’s memory to the Norwood Baptist Church, Warwick, RI
