Edward John Agin, 77, of Cornville passed away suddenly on Saturday October 6, 2018 in Athens, ME.
He was born September 14, 1941 in Central Falls, the son of Edward and Mary (Walek) Agin. He graduated from East Greenwich High School.
Edward married Elizabeth Bacon on January 25, 1969 in Granville, New York. He started his career, shell fishing when he was 12 and never stopped until he was 70 years young. This led to his deep love of the outdoors. When Narragansett Bay was in jeopardy, he stepped in to serve as president of the RI Shell Fisherman’s Association, a position which he served for 5 years. He also worked for Nabisco for 10 years.
He was an avid hunter and outdoors man. He loved to feed the deer, in fact, his dying act was the pursuit of apples for them. Fall held the double pleasure of also being football season. He was a dedicated Patriot’s fan, and Sunday afternoons were “off limits”, unless it was game talk.
Ed once received an award for an act of heroism when he pulled a neighbor from a burning building. He was a kind and caring person, who gave generously of himself. Ed will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Edward is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Bacon) of Cornville, ME. He also leaves his three daughters, Dolores Gagnon and her husband Roland of Cornville, ME, Ann Stedman of Vero Beach, FL, Mary King of Port Lucie, FL; two step-children, Barbara Gordon and Robert Esty both of RI; his sister, Valerie Harrison of Bristol; nine grandchildren, Philip, Catherine, Shawn, Lindsey, Luke, Desiree, Keith, Benjamin, and Jacob; as well as four great- grandchildren, Viviana, Anthony, Hazel and Lily and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, one son Matthew Agin, and Matt’s son Joshua.
Visiting hours will be held from 5-7pm on Friday, October 26, 2018, at Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the National MS Society of Greater New England, 101A First Ave., Waltham, MA 02451.
