Elena L. Bernstrom

Elena L. (Giornelli) Bernstrom, 93 peacefully passed away on Friday, November 20, 2020. She was the beloved wife of the late Douglas S. Bernstrom for 59 years. Elena was the daughter of the late John Giornelli and Assunta (Perretta) Giornelli. She is predeceased by her sister, Olga Toppi and brother, John Giornelli Jr.

Elena was a lifelong resident of the Town of East Greenwich, Rhode Island. She graduated from the East Greenwich Academy and worked at Stanley Bostitch Company. After taking time to raise her family, Elena also worked at Kent County Memorial Hospital in the Purchasing Department until retirement. She was a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church, East Greenwich.

Elena along with her husband Douglas, enjoyed their retirement years spending the Winter months at their Naples, Florida condo and time with family. She enjoyed reading, family gatherings and will be remembered as being kind and generous. Most of all, she loved her family and will be dearly missed.

Elena is survived by her daughter Jean E. Gebing, her husband Thomas and son, Stephen D Bernstrom, his wife Elizabeth. Elena also leaves behind her brother, Raymond Giornelli, his wife, Jill and good friend of many years, Laurie Murphy.

Due to Corona COVID 19 pandemic health restrictions, the funeral will be private. A memorial service will be organized late Summer / Fall 2021. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Mercy Church.
