Elizabeth M. Puddicombe

Elizabeth (Vaters) Puddicombe, of Narragansett and formerly of East Greenwich, passed away April 10, 2016 at South County Hospital. She was with her sons and daughters surrounded by love. Born July 4, 1930 in Port Royal Newfoundland, Canada, she was the daughter of Patrick and Susan (Barry) Vaters.

Elizabeth was a CNA, bank teller and devoted mother. She will be remembered as a proud “Newfie” with a great sense of humor and loving spirit. Her laughter and kind soul will be recalled by all who knew her.

Predeceased by her son James, she is survived by her son Michael and wife Barbara, daughter Patricia Bregnard, son Robert and husband Terry Zamojski and daughter Lisa and husband Sean Ferns. She was proud of and loved dearly her eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Born into a family of eight, she was the sister of the late James and Anselm Vaters, Patricia Hoiberg and Rose Hyyrynen. She is survived by her sister Margaret Carr and brothers Sylvester and William Vaters. She will be missed by all her nieces and nephews who knew her as “Aunt Betty”.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday April 30th at 10:00 am at Our Lady Mercy Church, 65 Third St., E. Greenwich. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, E. Greenwich. Calling hours are omitted. In lieu of flowers, a donation in her memory may be made to the National GRACE Foundation, P.O. Box 631, East Greenwich, RI 02818 (http://www.graceamerica.org/donate.html) which sends cancer survivors to college.
