Eugene J. Mccarthy

Eugene Joseph McCarthy, 89, passed away peacefully at Steere House Nursing Home on Thursday, October 13, 2016 in Providence RI with family at his bedside. He was born July 19, 1927 to the late John and Loretta (Emerson) McCarthy in Jersey City, New Jersey. On October 13, 1956 he married Marian (Sitek) McCarthy in Long Island, New York. Following their marriage, they moved from Manhatten, New York to Towaco, New Jersey and then to Long Beach Island ,New Jersey; where they raised their four children, and immersed themselves in the church and community. Gene worked for many years as a printing salesman, putting his charm and wit to use.
Gene loved his family deeply, along with his neighbors and many friends. He therefore was well loved and treasured in return. He loved to tell a joke, tease, share a witty remark, sing, whistle, walk his dog, read, and spend time with friends and family.
Survivors include his wife Marian; his 2 sons, Eugene McCarthy, Jr. of Park City, Utah, and John McCarthy of Jackson, New Jersey; two daughters, Marian Roohan and her husband Patrick of Castleton New York and Margaret (Maggie) Charpentier and her husband, Andy of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; two grandchildren Matthew and Mary Grace Roohan of New York, his sister MaryEllen Naumann and her husband Hank of Union City New Jersey along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A memorial mass will be held on Friday, October 21st at 10 am at Saint Bernard Church in North Kingstown, Rhode Island.
