Felix Cortes-Vargas (Felix el Gato)

Felix Cortes-Vargas, known as "Felix El Gato,” age 68, a longtime resident of Providence and a native of Puerto Rico, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Carmen Rivera. He was born on June 25, 1957, in Ponce, Puerto Rico, to his parents, Jose Juan Cortes and Carmen Maria Vargas.

Felix dedicated much of his life to his work as a masonry and construction worker, first in Puerto Rico and later after making his home in Providence. He was known for his strong work ethic, resilience, and the pride he took in providing for his family. Beyond his work, Felix will be remembered for his warmth, strength, and the love he shared with those around him.

He is survived by his children, Maria, Carlos, Jose, Felix, Janet, and Carmen. He also leaves behind 36 cherished grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, along with 3 sons-in-law and 3 daughters-in-law. Felix is further survived by his 5 sisters and 1 brother, all of whom will carry his memory in their hearts.

Felix’s life was a testament to dedication, family, and perseverance. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
