Florence Elizabeth Matteson

Florence Elizabeth (Turgeon) Matteson, age 85 of Warwick, Rhode Island, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 9, 2017.  Born in Providence on April 16, 1932, the daughter of the late Henry and Mary (Gilbert) Turgeon.  She was the wife of the late Ernest R. Matteson who tragically died at the age of 44 in 1974 and the companion of the late Charlie Arnold who died in 2006.  She was also the mother of the late Richard and Stacia Matteson who both died of Cystic Fibrosis before the age of 5.

She grew up in East Greenwich where she spent most of her life before moving to Warwick in the mid 80’s.  Florence worked for 35 years at Sealol/Eaton Aerospace where she developed life-long friendships and retired at the age of 79 in 2011.

She is survived by her 4 remaining sons and their wives, Ernest R. Matteson, Jr. and his partner Dale Sims of San Francisco, Kenneth A. Matteson and his wife Marge of Coventry, Douglas E. Matteson and his wife Kimberly of Warwick and Jeffrey C. Matteson and his wife Maryellen of East Greenwich.  She is also survived by 10 grandchildren:  Shannon, Mark, Sydney, Ashley, Nicholas, Rebecca, Kimberly, Daniel, Jed and Mellisa and 5 great grandchildren.  She was the sister of the late Henry Turgeon and Vivian Randal.

Funeral Service Thursday, December 14 ^th at 11:00am at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich.  Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Coventry where she will be buried next to her husband and 2 children.  Calling hours:  Wednesday, December 13 ^th 6-8pm.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Rhode Island Chapter of Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at 220 North Main Street, Suite 104, Natick, MA 01760.  The family wishes to thank Hope Hospice, South Team for their great love and support.
