Frederick B. Peirce

Frederick Budlong Peirce, 77, died at home after a long illness on January 30, 2026. He leaves his wife, Geraldine “Geri” Peirce, née Sullivan; daughter Francie; son-in-law Corey Stenberg; sister Peggy Peirce Crossley.

Fred was born on April 16, 1948, in New Orleans, Louisiana, to Robert Allan Peirce and Esther “Sue” Peirce, née Budlong.

In 1950, the family moved to Rhode Island, his mother’s home state, where Fred grew up in East Greenwich and attended elementary and secondary schools in Warwick, graduating from Warwick Veterans Memorial High School in 1966.

He studied business at the University of Rhode Island, interrupted by a two-year stint in the U.S. Army, where he was fortunate to serve stateside during the Vietnam era. Following his graduation from URI, Fred met the love of his life, Geri Sullivan, whom Fred always called Geraldine, her given name. They married in 1989 and settled in the Cowesett area, where they welcomed their daughter, Francie, who was the next great love of Fred’s life.

Fred had a varied business career, including sales/marketing and management positions with such communications companies as New England Telephone, NYNEX, and C-COR of State College, PA.

Growing up on Narragansett Bay, Fred loved the water and he was an avid sailor, but following his retirement, Fred devoted himself to two other great passions: food and golf. He became an accomplished cook, known especially for his New England clam chowder, and an average, but avid, golfer. Next to his home, Potowomut Golf Club was his favorite place.

After his family, Fred considered his friends the greatest blessing of his life, and his friends are many. Throughout his life, wherever he went, friendships were made and kept. Known for his great sense of humor and wit, Fred was always a welcome companion. He made everyone around him feel special and loved.

Warren Buffett said, “When you’re nearing your end of life, your only measure of success should be the number of people you want to have love you actually do love you.”

By that measure, Fred Peirce was a most successful man.
