George E. Metcalfe

George E. Metcalfe, 85, of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on November 20, 2018.  He was predeceased by his devoted wife of 51 years, Florence V. (Ryan) Metcalfe and his brother Walter Metcalfe, Jr.  He was a son of the late Walter, Sr. and Signe (Benson) Metcalfe.  He is survived by his sons, Stephen E. Metcalfe and wife Laura and David P. Metcalfe, EGPD (Ret.) and wife Sandi; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

George was an Army veteran of the Korean War.  After his honored service, George co-owned a home building business; later sharpening his skills, he became a sought after craftsman carpenter.  His career spanned over 40 years, the later years, a member of Local #94.

George was a true outdoorsman who shared his love of nature with his sons.  He was very proud of his growing family.  His hobbies were hunting and fishing, gardening, woodworking and enjoying his home.  His sharp wit and common sense approach to life, made him one of a kind.

Funeral Service Tuesday, November 27 th at 10:30am at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich.  Burial with military honors will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.  Calling hours:  Monday, November 26 th 4-8pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
