George H. Quinn, Jr.

George Quinn passed away on December 25,2025. He was the son of the late George and Mary (McKenne) Quinn. He was a resident of North Providence for the last 50 years prior to that he resided in Providence where he was born.

George received a bachelor’s degree from Providence College in 1963 and a master’s degree in guidance counseling from San Diego State University in 1969. He worked for the Providence School Department as a guidance counselor until his retirement. While working for the district George became proficient in both Spanish and Portuguese

George loved both telling and writing stories. Many of the stories he wrote were rooted in his youth growing up on Broadway and later Robin Street. He had stories published in small publications. Many of his friends will remember his letters to the Providence Journal.

After his retirement he volunteered teaching English as a second language for Progresso Latino and Rhode Island Literacy.

Travel was something George loved to do especially to counties that enhance his proficiency in Spanish and Portuguese. He also loved traveling to Ireland and Paris.

George was the brother of Mary Jane Sornberger (John) and Barbara Witbeck (David) and cousin to Sharon Lenox and James McKenna.

Our family is touched by love and support given him by Blessed Sacrament School’s Class of 1956 who were his lifelong friends.

The services have been entrusted to the SKEFFINGTON FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION.
