Gerald A. Greene, Sr.

GERALD A. GREENE, SR., 94, a lifelong resident of Providence, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2026, at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital. He was the husband of the late Emmalina (Fratus) Greene. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Charles and Mae (Vincent) Greene.

Mr. Greene worked as a roofer foreman until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of the Roofers & Waterproofers Union Local No. 33.

Most important to him was serving as the patriarch to his large and loving family. He is survived by his children: Gerald Greene, Jr., Marie Lariviere, Joseph Greene, Dori Greene, Bernadette Greene and James Greene. He was predeceased by his sons Richard and William Greene. He also leaves behind 14 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, many of whom he affectionately became known as “Pops.” He was predeceased by two grandsons, Gerald Greene III and Andrew Greene. Mr. Greene was the brother of Patricia Valis as well as the late Charles Greene, Bernadette Arruda, Carol Angarella, Elsie Vadnais, Joseph Greene, Norman Greene, Rita Walther, and Anita Tasca. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Finally, his loving canine companion, Max, survives him at home.

In his later years, Mr. Greene was generously and lovingly cared for by his two main caretakers, his son James and his daughter Dori, for which the family is forever grateful.

Calling hours will be held Tuesday, September 29, 2026, from 4-7 PM at Skeffington Funeral Home & Cremations located at 925 Chalkstone Avenue in Providence. Funeral service will take place Wednesday, September 30, 2026 from 10-11 am at the funeral home, followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Providence.
