Hasmeg Sahagian, of Newport and North Providence, Rhode Island passed away peacefully on December 27, 2022 with her children by her side. Hasmeg was born on February 2, 1930 to Miran and Julia Garabedian. She married Oscar on May 11, 1952. Together they raised two children, Dawn and Richard.
As a young girl she studied classical piano and as a teenager became a member of the Charminade Club and was frequently invited to perform as a soloist at the Music Mansion.
Growing up in Edgewood, Rhode Island, she skated on the ponds of Roger Williams Park, sailed on Narragansett Bay, and played bridge with her lifelong friends.
Hasmeg was devoted to her family. While her children were at school she spent her time volunteering at the local hospital. Throughout her life she was an ardent supporter of the Save the Children Fund and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Hasmeg and Oscar were the happiest when entertaining family and friends in Florida and at their home in Newport. Her beautiful spirit will be missed.
Hasmeg is survived by her daughter Dawn Sahagian and her companion Vincent R. Iacono, MD, her son Richard G. Sahagian and his wife Celeste Marsella, and her beloved granddaughter Stacy C. Sahagian and her husband Connor H. McKinney. She is predeceased by her husband Oscar, her brother Charles Garabedian and her golden retriever, Simba.
