James J Andrade of North Kingstown passed away Saturday May 4, 2024 at the age of 86. He was the loving husband of Patricia Andrade and they would have celebrated their 61th anniversary this June. He is survived by his Son, Matthew Andrade, his Daughter, Michelle Andrade and two grandchildren he adored. James was born in Dartmouth, Massachusetts and attended The University of Massachusetts, graduating in the top three of his class. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Forrestal and was Honorably discharged in 1962. He was lucky to get his absolute dream job when he went on to work for Grumman Aircraft and NASA where worked on the Apollo program. He received the Apollo Achievement Award, "In appreciation of dedicated service to the nation as a member of the team which has advanced the nation's capabilities in aeronautics and space and demonstrated them in many outstanding accomplishments culminating in Apollo 11's successful achievement of man's first landing on the moon, July 20, 1969". He was also gifted with a piece of the spacecraft Aquarius from the Apollo 13 crew in 1970.
After the Space program was paused he brought his young family to North Kingstown, RI. He became the Plant manager for Brown & Sharpe where he worked for the next 40 years until he retired. He served for 8 years on the North Kingstown School Committee. He was a quiet and reserved man who loved to read anything and everything Science Fiction. He spent his later years working tirelessly on the family genealogy.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date.
