James M. Henderson, Usn Ret.

James M. Henderson, USN Ret., 78 passed away May 20, 2016. He was the husband of Angela A. (Santoro) Henderson and the late Nancy Henderson. Born in Washington D.C. he was the son of the late Owen A. and Thelma (Thayer) Henderson.

Mr. Henderson retired from the US Navy after 25 years of service, serving 3 tours in Viet Nam aboard 4 destroyers, a battleship and a cruiser. Following his retirement from the Navy he worked as a Chief Boiler Engineer for the State of Rhode Island for 37 years. He was a member of the DAV, the Tin Can Sailors National Association of Destroyer Veterans, and the NK Senior Center.

Besides his wife he is survived by three children; Michael and Mitchel Henderson and Karen Chappell, two grandchildren Ryan and Kyle, sisters Marcia Wright and Terry McCarthy, two step children; Edgar B. McCreadie and Brenda Lema and a step grandson Franco Lema, and nephews Alan L. Phillips and James M. Wright and a niece Tracy A. Wright. He was the brother of the late Alice McCallum, June Phillips and Owen E. Henderson (USA Ret.).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday May 24th at 11:00 am at St. Francis de Sales Church, School St., N. Kingstown. Burial with military honors will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation prior to mass will be from 8:30-10:30 am at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., E. Greenwich. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Francis de Sales Church.
