Janice D. Battey

Janice D. Battey, formerly Janice D. Barron, 83, of East Greenwich, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, September 18th at Overlook Nursing and Rehabilitation. Born on July 28, 1941 in Acushnet, Massachusetts, she was the beloved daughter of the late Elsie E. Washburn (Dexter) and the late George R. Washburn. She was the beloved wife for 30 years to the late Joseph Robert Battey.

Janice was cherished by her four children, Thomas J. Barron (Patricia) of Uxbridge, MA, Sean P. Barron (Tracy), of East Greenwich, RI, Kevin R. Barron, of North Kingstown, RI, and Rebecca L. Bass, of Oldsmar, FL. She was the beloved Grandmother to eight, Jessica Beattie (David), Michelle Barron, Taylor Barron, Nicole Bass, Dylan Barron, Madelyn Barron, Jake Barron, and Cole Barron. Great grandmother to Melody Barron, Caleb Beattie, Riley Beattie, Thomas Fernandez, and Henry Fernandez. Besides her children, she leaves behind her twin sister, Jeanette Hubbard, brother George (Mary) and many cherished nieces and nephews. Janice was predeceased by her sister, Elsie Bauer and her brother Joseph Washburn.

Janice was a former Office Manager for Royal Engineering. She was an avid card player and enjoyed her time at the slot machines. Janice will also be missed by her longtime friend, Jean “Jeannie” Almonte.

Calling hours will be held Friday, September 27th, from 4-7 pm at Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main Street in East Greenwich. Her funeral and burial will be private.
