Joan F. Crowley, 85, of Providence, RI passed away at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence on Thursday, May 20th 2021.
She was the daughter of the late John F Mcgwinn and Irene (Martin) Mcgwinn, sister of the late Suellen F (Mcgwinn) Lariviere, wife of the late Cornielous J Crowley, Mother of Kathryn Crowley, Kevin Crowley and Patricia Crowley-Smith, Aunt of several nieces and nephews.
Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late John F Mcgwinn and Irene (Martin) Mcgwinn, sister of the late Suellen F (Mcgwinn) Lariviere. She was the wife of the late Cornelius J Crowley, an esteemed member of the community. She is survived by her three children.
Joan graduated Hope High School, earned a teaching certificate at Rhode Island College, became a teacher and taught at various schools throughout Providence. She was dedicated to helping children and also became a counselor at Camp Hoffman.
Joan married her adoring husband "Neil" and raised three loving children: Kathryn, Kevin and Patricia. During this time she worked at Blessed Sacrament in Providence and obtained her Masters degree in Theology at Providence College. She subsequently returned to teaching in the Providence school system.
Joan loved traveling to visit religious sites, She was especially involved with social justice events. Joan remained active in her church along with many groups and coalitions, including the Rhode Island organizing project, Pax Christi, prayer shawl, Bible study, food pantry and several others. You could often find Joan volunteering in organizations such at The Pawtucket Soup Kitchen and Breadline.
Joan was an advocate for peace and social justice, admired and loved by many and remained faithful throughout her life. Wife, mother, aunt, advocate, crusader, educator, friend.
