Joan Ann Mahoney (née Adams) passed away at home surrounded by her family on January 23, 2022.

Born on the 4 th of July, 1934 in Providence, Joan was the daughter of the late Edmund L. and Mabel B. Adams (née Doyle). She is survived by her five children, Peter A. Mahoney, Jr. CMDR. Ret. and wife Linda, Pamela A. Mahoney and husband John Lanni, Patrick A. Mahoney and wife Giselle, Phillip A. Mahoney and wife Marci, and Patricia A. Mahoney; 10 grandchildren, five great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter, her godson, Scott Franco, and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her two sisters Doris Miller and Lucille Overlock.

Joan grew up in Providence and moved to Warwick, where she met and was married to the late Peter A. Mahoney, Sr. for 36 years. She was a dedicated homemaker and caretaker, raising five children and caring for her mother, father, in-laws, family, and friends. She kept a beautiful house, and she could have written the book of etiquette.

Joan was close friends with Gloria Truitt, Bonita “Bunny” Franco, and Cathy Caparco. She loved to cook, sew, and spend a day shopping. She enjoyed meeting her children’s friends and loved dancing and social gatherings with her family and friends. She enjoyed organizing holiday celebrations to spend time with her aunts, uncles, family and friends. Joan also loved the 4 th of July, where a two-day celebration was held with family and friends in Gaspee Point.

Later in her life, Joan moved to North Kingstown, residing with her son, Patrick and his family. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was member of St. Francis de Sales parish in North Kingstown.

Relative and friends are kindly invited to a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, January 31 st at 12:00pm at St. Francis de Sales, 381 School St, North Kingstown. Entombment will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.

Visiting hours from 9:30-11:30am at Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St, East Greenwich.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made to Beacon/Amedisys Hospice Care, 1130 Ten Rod Rd Suite A205, North Kingstown.
