Joan M. Nelson

Joan Marie (Fisette) Nelson, 59, of Warwick, passed away on May 26 at the Philip Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Joan was born in Providence and grew up in North Kingstown, a beloved daughter of the late Harvey J. and Natalie L. (Norden) Fisette.  Joan moved to Warwick with her family just before her senior year of high school and graduated in 1980 from Toll Gate High School.  She earned an associate’s degree from Johnson & Wales University.  Her proudest accomplishment was to become a registered nurse at the age of 49, after earning a second associate’s degree at the Community College of Rhode Island.

Through her career, Joan worked in the banking and healthcare fields.  She was recently employed as an R.N. at the West View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in West Warwick.

Joan will be remembered for her gentle demeanor and constant kindness by those who loved her.

She is survived by her sister, Barbara E. F. Pierce (Craig) of North Kingstown; brothers James H. and Harvey J. Fisette, Jr. of Warwick; nephews James T. Fisette (Nicole) of Portsmouth and Connor J. Fisette of Warwick; nieces Alisha M. Monahan (Abraham) of Duxbury, Mass. and Celeste E. Pierce of North Kingstown; and two great-nephews.  She is also survived by her aunt, Shirley F. Seguin of Warwick and several cousins.
