Joseph F. Carroll, 90, of Providence, RI passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 5, 2022 at the Rhode Island Veterans home in Bristol, RI. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 54 years, Patricia R. (Lynch) Carroll.
Son of the late Patrick J. and Mary K. (Casey) Carroll, Joseph was born in Providence and graduated from Mount Pleasant High School.
Mr. Carroll served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany. Upon returning from the war Joseph began his career as a Photoengraver with The Providence Journal Bulletin where he worked for 32 years. He later obtained his Real Estate Broker license and worked for several local and national companies.
Joseph was active in local politics and was former chairman of the Providence 5th Ward Democratic Committee.
Joseph enjoyed his Irish heritage and was a former member of several organizations including The Ancient Order of Hibernians, Sons of Saint Patrick, The Knights of Columbus and The Rhode Island Ceilidhe Club.
He was a communicant at St. Pius Church in Providence, RI for over 50 years.
Mr. Carroll was a bit of a joke teller and would rattle off one-liners to family, friends and sometimes innocent bystanders. Joseph and his wife Patricia enjoyed traveling, Irish music, dancing and being with family and friends.
Joseph is survived by his son John F. Carroll of Lincoln, RI and his cherished grandsons Liam and Sean. Joseph was the brother of the late Anna M. Canning and Katherine P. Cunningham.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the entire staff at The Rhode Island Veterans Home. The superb care and compassion extended to Joseph during his stay was extraordinary.
A visitation will be held from 4-6pm on Thursday, June 9th at the J.F. Skeffington Funeral Home, 925 Chalkstone Avenue, Providence, RI. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian burial at 10am at St. Pius V Church 240 Eaton Street, Providence, RI.
Military Honors will follow at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
