Joyce B. DiPippo, age 88, of East Greenwich, RI, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, surrounded by her loved ones .Joyce was the daughter of the late Edward Lang and Gertrude (Jacobson) Lang. She was the sister of Bruce Lang, who passed away in 2012, and was predeceased by her former husband, Robert Ferrar iDiPippo (2020). Joyce leaves behind her son, Alexander Ferrari DiPippo and his wife Traude Kastner; her daughter, Trudy Jean DiPippo; her grandson, Jack Davis; and her beloved toy poodle, Teddie. Born in Los Angeles, California, Joyce moved with her family to Rhode Island when she was a young girl. She attended Syracuse University where she studied theater and fine art, playing Abigail in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. Joyce moved to New York, Europe and later to Boston, to pursue a business career in the field of fashion while also working as a model. In the early 1970s, Joyce partnered with her father to run The Providence Pen Shop in the historic Providence Arcade Building. When her father stepped away from the business to open a bowling alley—Lang’s Bowlarama, which is still thriving today—Joyce gradually transformed the pen shop into a women’s clothing and fashion boutique called City Girl—with the forward-looking vision of dressing the newly emerging working woman with stylish European clothes at prices calibrated to a working woman ’s budget All her life, Joyce was a voracious reader, avid theatergoer, and passionate film enthusiast. She loved watching tennis—a passion that began in the late 1970s when she attended the Volvo International Tennis Tournaments in North Conway, NH. She also loved cooking and constantly sought out good restaurants. Above and beyond all, Joyce was a devoted mother who loved nothing more than spending time with her children. A memorial service will be held at Swan Point Cemetery’s Redwood Chapel (585 Blackstone Blvd, Providence, RI) on Friday, October 24 at noon, with burial.
