Judith "JUDE" Brewster

I wanted to take a moment to share some heartfelt memories and reflections on the life of Judith Brewster, who preferred to be called Jude.

Jude was raised by her loving mother, Isabella Brewster, in the close-knit community of Smithfield, Rhode Island, where she lived her entire life until 2017, when she sadly lost her home. Though her father was absent throughout her life, Jude once shared with me—just two weeks ago—that his middle name was Ezra, a detail she revealed as I mentioned my grandson's name, a meaningful connection since they never met. Her mind remained sharp and lucid even in those moments, a testament to her remarkable spirit.

An artist and poet at heart, Jude found joy and peace in nature. She spent countless days tending to her gardens, nurturing life and beauty with the same care she applied to her art. She also loved expressing her creativity in the ceramics studio, where her talent brought clay to life. Jude was truly a beautiful soul—gentle, kind, and an amazing friend to those lucky enough to know her.

Her family circle was small; her mother passed away in 2015, leaving Jude on her own. Though she may not have had many family ties, the depth of her friendships and the warmth she shared with others spoke volumes about the love she carried within her.

As we remember Jude, let us celebrate the remarkable person she was—her creativity, her connection to nature, and her enduring friendship. She touched our lives in countless ways, and her memory will live on in our hearts.

Thank you for taking the time to honor Jude’s life with us.
