Kenneth L. Hamilton, Sr., E.G.P.D. (Ret.), 88 passed away peacefully, August 12, 2018 in North Kingstown. He was the beloved husband for 66 years of the late Joyce A. (Fiske) Hamilton. He is survived by his children, Holly Briggs and her husband Norman, Nancy Robinson and her husband Oren and Kenneth, Jr. and his wife Deborah; his grandchildren: Stephanie Hill and Shaun Briggs, Jason and Jarred Robinson, Jessica White and Justin Hamilton; his great grandchildren: Logan and Sophia Parmenter, Kate and Audrey Hill, Alexis, Kyle and Dylan Briggs, Aidan and Olivia Robinson and Alexia White. He was the son of the late Alpheus J. and Mary I. (Eaton) Hamilton and the brother of the late Audrey Quarters.
Kenneth was a longtime resident of East Greenwich before moving to Naples, FL and Leander, TX and then returning to Rhode Island. He and his father Alpheus, worked together operating the family dairy farm, named the Cindyann Farm in East Greenwich until April 29, 1964. He was also a Special Officer for the East Greenwich Police Department for many years while still working at the farm. He joined the East Greenwich Police Department as a Patrolman, retiring in February 1993, after serving the Department for 40 years and receiving numerous commendations. Ken was also a volunteer for the East Greenwich Fire Department.
He was a member of the Rocky Hill Grange. In the summer, he enjoyed camping at Ginny B. Camp Grounds in Foster, RI and helped his uncle, Richard Hamilton, get the Rocky Hill Fair Grounds ready every August. He also helped his wife manage the Rocky Hill Fair Grounds Restaurant.
Ken will be remembered for growing a garden of a variety of vegetables, where his grandchildren loved to help, for his family.
His Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 18th at 10:00AM at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Burial will be in Glenwood Cemetery, East Greenwich. Calling hours: Friday, August 17th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
