Kenneth A. Merritt, Nkfd (Ret.)

Kenneth A. Merritt, NKFD (Ret.), 58 formerly of North Kingstown passed away January 11, 2018 in Murrells Inlet, SC. Born in Providence he was a son of the late Clifford A. Merritt, Quonset Point Fire Department, (Ret.) and Shirley M. (Gay) Merritt.

He retired after 30 years of service as Deputy Chief for the North Kingstown Fire Department. He belonged to Firefighters Local 1651 and was an avid golfer and Red Sox fan. He was a baseball and softball umpire with the RI Umpires Association and a member of King Solomon Lodge #11 F&AM.

He is survived by a brother Craig S. Merritt, Cranston Fire Department (Ret.), two nephews Nicholas and Matthew Merritt, three step children Julie Wichert, Chad Mattscheck and Wade Mattscheck and a step grandson Reed Wichert.

A funeral service will be celebrated on Saturday February 10 th at Noon in the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. Burial will be private. Visitation prior to the service will be held from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm. In lieu of flowers donations in Ken’s memory may be made to the North Kingstown Firefighter’s Association Scholarship Fund, PO Box 844, North Kingstown, RI 02852.
