Leonora C. Ferranti, 90, went home to meet her Savior on October 9, 2016. Born in Providence, on July 18, 1926 to the late Antonio and Carmella (Corvese) Tavarozzi. She was the wife of the late William J. Ferranti, the mother of Lorna A. Ferranti Sweeny, Susan C. Ferranti Sherman, Kenneth A. Ferranti and his wife Christine and the late William J. Ferranti, Jr., grandmother of 9 grandchildren and great grandmother of 7 great grandchildren. She was mother in law of the late John S. Sweeny and was predeceased by 5 siblings.
Leonora was a homemaker who had a flair for hospitality. She graciously welcomed her
family, friends, and neighbors into her home. She led her family by example which was
reflected through her faith in God, her deep love for her husband, children, and
grandchildren.
On Sunday, the aroma of her special “Sunday Dinner” or hot apple pies were enjoyed by
many. Moreover, Leonora made Christmas extremely special as she baked and
delivered dozens of her Italian Christmas cookies.
Leonora was a true servant. She loved to visit the sick and elderly.
Additionally, she had a way with children. She seemed to gravitate toward children with
special needs. This love for children inspired her to become a Campfire Girl leader for
several years.
Later in life, Leonora worked as a sales associate at Brides Showcase with her sister
Edith, who was the owner. She was fully invested as she sought to find the “perfect”
wedding dress for many brides.
A true servant, Leonora was passionate about visiting sick or elderly people. This led her
to serve as a volunteer for the Visiting Nurse Association (VNA) of RI.
Over the last eight years as she continued her fourteen year journey with Alzheimer’s
disease, her humble, gentle spirit, and love for singing and music was at the core of
her heart and life at Scalabrini Villa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 15th at 10:00am at St. Francis de Sales Church, School St., North Kingstown. Burial will be private. Contributions in her memory would be graciously accepted for the Scalabrini Villa Activity Fund or the Alzheimer’s Association.
