Louis A. Lepry

Louis Anthony Lepry, Sr., age 89, died at Brentwood Nursing Home in Warwick on October 9, 2018 after a brief illness.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Joan (O’Connell) Lepry, and by his adoring children, Mary Lepry of Hope, R,I Thomas Lepry of Denver CO, Elizabeth Leach of Smithfield, RI, Susan Lepry of AK and Julie Medeiros of Wakefield, RI and their spouses. His beloved son Louis A. Lepry, Jr. predeceased him February, 2017.

He is survived by nine cherished grandchildren:  William, Miles and Anna Lepry, Kate and Eva Lepry, Sarah and Patricia Leach, Zachary Lepry, and Carmen Medeiros.  He was 'Uncle Lou’ to 29 nieces and nephews.

Born January 1, 1929 in Apponaug, RI, he was predeceased by his parents Luigi (Lepore) Lepry and Anna (Mitchell) Lepry, brother John Lepry, sisters Rosemary Cross, Dolores Lepry and Louise Casey.  He is survived by his sisters Anna Brown of Warwick and Rita Russo of North Kingstown and his siblings-in-law Rachel Lepry of MD, Thomas O'Connell of WI and Robert Casey of WA.

Lou was a 1947 graduate of LaSalle Academy where he won the New England Track Championship for the mile run. This earned him a 4 year track scholarship to Notre Dame University where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Physical Education in 1951.  He served in the Korean War in the Army Division from 1951 to 1953.  He earned his Masters of Science in Administration from the University of Rhode Island in 1960 and had an illustrious career in education that spanned 35 years in the East Greenwich community, first as a teacher, then as a public school administrator, touching the lives of innumerable children.

Lou was past president of the RI Secondary School Principals Association, Chairman of the State Junior High Athletic Committee,  a Grand Knight in the Saint Joseph’s Council of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of Rhode Island Ski Runners (RISKI).  He was a long time volunteer for the American Cancer Society and LaSalle Academy’s Jack Cronin Memorial Fund.  He was inducted to the Rhode Island Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010. His avocations include sailing, skiing, golfing and photography, and was ‘Captain Lou’ of the Tiki for many years.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, October 19 th at 10:00am at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 65 Third St., East Greenwich.  Burial with military honors will be in RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.  Calling hours:  Thursday, October 18 th 4-7pm at the Hill Funeral Home, 822 Main St., East Greenwich. The family wishes to thank the staff of Brentwood Nursing Home, Brentwood By the Bay, and Kent County Hospital for their tender care of Lou in his last days.
