Marian S. Mccarthy

Marian McCarthy, 92, passed away peacefully at The Green Homes on Saturday, December 22, 2018 in East Greenwich RI with family at her bedside. Marian was born August 17, 1926 to the late Julius and Margaret  (Hetlinger) Sitek in Jamaica Queens, New York. On October 13, 1956 she married Eugene McCarthy in Long Island, New York.  Their sixty years together led them from Manhattan, to Towaco to Long Beach Island and to East Greenwich.   Throughout they raised their four independent children, and immersed themselves in the church and community. Marian worked for many years as an executive secretary, as a grant-writing specialist and as a controller for Bell Labs, where she retired. She also took great pride in her ocean-view apartment rentals on Long Beach Island, keeping them immaculate including freshly washed sheets that were hung on the clothesline.

Marian loved her family deeply, along with her neighbors and close friends.  She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren making Crepes, going to the beach and being their beloved Grandma, creating lasting memories. Marian will be remembered for her kind heart, sparkling eyes and quiet, strong nature.

Survivors include her 2 sons, Eugene McCarthy, Jr. of Park City, Utah, and John McCarthy of Brick, New Jersey; two daughters, Marian Roohan and her husband Patrick of Castleton New York and Margaret (Maggie) Charpentier and her husband, Andy of North Kingstown, Rhode Island; two grandchildren Matthew and Mary Grace Roohan of Castleton, New York.

A memorial mass will be held in the Spring 2019 on Long Beach Island, New Jersey where Marian and Gene lovingly raised their family and enjoyed the beach, their friends and loved each other. Online condolences can be left on Hill Funeral Home memorial tribute at (www.hillfuneralhome.com).

The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful and dedicated staff of the Green Homes at Saint Elizabeth, East Greenwich for their tender care and compassion of Marian.  Special thanks to Hope and Hospice of RI for their assistance in the final days.  Memorial donations can be made to The Green Homes at 1 Saint Elizabeth Way, East Greenwich, RI  02818
