Mary C. Mcgovern

94, formerly of Greenfield Avenue, North Providence passed away Thursday, September 6, 2012 at Home and Hospice Care of RI. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Peter J. and Mary K. (Darcy) McGovern and was the sister of the late Barbara A (McGovern) Hill. Mary graduated from the former R.I. College of Education and was a resident of North Providence since 1927. She taught for the North Providence School Department for 40 years at the James L. McGuire School. She was a founding member of Saint Augustine Church and a former member of the Rosary and Altar Society. She was a member of the Rhode Island Federation of Retired Teachers and was an electoral voter for the State of RI in the 1960 presidential election. She is survived by her loving sister Margaret E. McGovern with whom she lived and was the beloved aunt of Patricia A. Sprague, Robert M. and William F. Hill. Her funeral will be held at the J.F. Skeffington Chapel, 925 Chalkstone Ave, Providence Monday at 9:00 AM followed by a mass of Christian burial in St. Augustine's Church at 10:00 AM with burial following at St. Ann Cemetery Cranston. Visiting hours Sunday (today) 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her memory may be made to the Franciscan Missionaries of Mary, 399 Fruit Hill Ave, North Providence, RI 02911.
